Here at Stone Creek Landscaping, we are always looking for interesting tips and advice to share with our readers and this month we are sharing February tasks for your lawn. We found a fantastic Season Gardening Calendar on Walter Reeves’, the Georgia Gardener, website. His helpful tips are ones anyone can follow and we just had to share his weekly tips for February. To view the entire list be sure to check out walterreeves.com.

Breaking Down the Weeks

During the first week of February, you should include pruning fruit trees, controlling weeds, checking for blooms, redesigning your lawn and watering winter plants.During the second week, Walter recommends testing your soil. He also suggests forcing winter blooms. This can be done by bringing branches of spirea, forsythia and flowering quince indoors. Placed in a vase, they will bloom in just a few days. Week three includes planting. He recommends planting sweet pea now for fragrant flowers later. Also, plant English peas, onions, asparagus or elephant garlic for your spring vegetable garden.

Week four is a great time for cleaning up monkey grass and fertilizing your fescue. Any brand of turf fertilizer will work well and your next application should be in April. Also, don’t forget to prune butterfly bushes should you have any in your yard.
